How to deal with teenage spots

Skin can act differently throughout different stages in our life and our teenage years can be made that little bit more awkward by having acne. It can feel totally disastrous, but the good news is, it can be treated.

Teenage Skincare Tips

Have you ever wondered what the difference is between adult and teenage acne? Well, here you go!

Teenage skin renews itself more regularly which means it can recover rapidly from breakouts, but at the same time puberty and hormones can wreak havoc. When we are an adult, our skin renews itself slower (sadly, it’s less resilient), so it takes longer to heal from scarring.

Teenage acne can be a difficult skin problem to treat, but you can absolutely take steps to reduce spots using natural and clean skincare.

What causes teen acne?
Whist acne is something that can run in the family, it is usually caused by excess oil. We can thank hormonal changes during puberty for that one. Hormonal changes during the teenage years can make skin oilier, which can then lead to blocked pores, causing acne.

What to do to treat?
Following a few self-care tips will help to keep skin looking and feeling as healthy as possible. It doesn’t matter how old we are, drinking plenty of water and enjoying a healthy, balanced diet will do wonders for so many aspects of our health, especially our skin.

As a young teenager, it’s a great opportunity to start creating good skincare habits. Getting to grips with a skincare routine and enlisting some great skincare products is key. If you have teen acne, it’s time to focus on oil control and products that are suitable for acne prone skin – it’s important to choose a cleanser that will help unclog pores and fight off bacteria.

Tsok & Co has a fabulous range that is specifically designed for that teen glow and yes, it’s called the ‘Teen Glow Set’! We love this set as it includes a facial cleansing gel, corrective serum and balancing moisturiser to help keep excess oil under control and is perfect to unclog pores, making skin nice and clean.

Hormonal Skincare

Keeping your teenager’s skincare routine simple will hopefully mean they stick to it and here are a few steps to follow:

1. Use a mild cleanser

Wash your face twice a day with our cleanser from the Teen Glow set. Try and avoid cleansers that will dry out skin and don’t cleanse more than twice a day.

2. Gentle exfoliation is a good idea.

Try and pick a product that contains salicylic acid as it is a good way to remove dead skin cells that blocks pores and causes spots. It’s important to see how skin responds to these types of products before using it every day.

3. Corrective Serum

The Tsok & Co serum is packed with potent actives that support collagen production and skin repair. This serum gives immediate lifting and smoothing of the skin whilst also working to improve skin tone and texture. This will help to hydrate the skin and protect from daily aggressions.

4. Sun protection is important.

This is a really really really key step as we do not want sun damage. Skin that is already under stress doesn’t need to also deal with sun burn. Use a light cream with an SPF30 during the day.

Here are a few more handy tips to really help you manage and hopefully eliminate acne.

1. When we are trying to figure out how to get our skin looking it’s best. It can be confusing with so many brands on the market. As a cruelty-free and Australian skincare brand, Tsok & Co has a range of beautiful skincare products that are the best place to start!

2. There are also a few things that need to be avoided:
- Facial scrubs as they can cause more damage to the skin
- Facial cleanser masks
- Excessive scrubbing and washing.

3. We all might dread it….but cleanse the day away before bed. It’s so worth it!

4. Don’t skin moisturiser, just choose one that’s oil free that will moisturise without blocking pores.

5. It might be something we don’t think about, but it’s also important to wash towels, pillowcases, and hair frequently to avoid additional bacteria/oils.

6. Don’t stress and don’t touch!

7. Avoid using too much make-up and cosmetics.

8. Regular exercise cannot improve your acne, but it can boost your mood and improve your self-esteem. Shower as soon as possible once you finish exercising as sweat can irritate your acne.
